Fishing
Andoya is a paradise for fishermen. Dozens of beautiful lakes full of trout (and sometimes salmon) and the fjord make the island the perfect place for beginners as well as the most experienced anglers. Fishing in the fjord is free but only advisable from a boat. Fishing in lakes is also legal for anyone but you have to buy a ticket online. Feel free to contact us for more information on any fishing spots or questions you might have.
Hiking
A quick look around the island makes one thing quite clear. Hikers have their work cut out for them. With so many mountains everybody can find a challenge just right for their fitness level. Please make sure that you wear a windstopper and bring a backpack with more layers to put on. The temperature and winds can be quite cold on the top ;)
For most mountains you must make your own path. But some have trails going up: Bjørnskinn mountain is such a hike and very well suited for everybody

Hunters and Gatherers
It breaks our heart to give up this secret. But for mushroom lovers autumn is the season to visit us. In this season the woods on Andoya are filled with thousands of yummy mushrooms and delicious berries. But the gatherers amongst you that don't like the search and prefer just knowing the best spots will have to contact us for that info. ;)
Northern Lights
If you visit us between the end of August and the end of April, you will have great chances of experiencing the magical northern lights along the night sky. If your stay isn't very long but you still want to have good chances of seeing this spectacle, we offer Northern Light Tours where we chase the lights with cars, weather maps and aurora maps.

Whale Safaries
In Andenes there are 2 places that offer whale safaris. Both businesses provide a great experience and we have been on both safaris before.
https://www.whalesafari.no has a small museum tour before departing with the boat. Here you will learn many interesting facts about the various species of whales that call the waters around Andoya their home. After the museum a big boat with sonar takes off to go looking for the beautiful animals.
https://whale2sea.no has no museum but is more suited for adrenaline junkies. The tour is carried out on high performance speed boats which make the way to the whales very fun (and sometimes very wet).
Both safaris give you a whale spotting guarantee which is great. We really loved both adventures and can only advise to not miss out on them.

Lofotr Vikingmusuem
This museum is a little further away but the trip is defenitley worth it! Walk in the footsteps of the Vikings and explore their fantastic outdoor area, surrounded by magnificent northern Norwegian nature. Wander along old paths down to the harbor where the Vikings sailed with their Viking ships. In summer you can sail or row with the Viking ship as long as the weather permits. During the autumn, the Viking ship will be docked. Try axe throwing, bows and arrows or drink a good cup of coffee in Skjeltersjåen. On the way down to the harbour, you can see a number of different livestock that existed during the Viking Age.

Take a trip with Hurtigruten
From Risøyhamn you can board the Hurtigruten ferries which can take you to many other places in Norway. Many people only know them as a cruise ship, but the locals like to board the boats with their cars to make a long trip way more comfortable and cozy. Amazing views from the panoramic windows on the upper decks make a 10-hour voyage go by way too fast. It can be tricky to find the place to buy those tickets so just give us a call and we will help you gladly.
Tromsø
With the hurtigruten you can take a weekend trip to Tromsø. This beautiful city is often called the Paris of the north. There are endless things to discover there, and we loved our trip there a lot.
